Mal and Alina are best friends, orphans, and working in Ravka’s First Army, serving their country in a never ending war. Since their time in the orphanage the two have been inseparable and now they face their greatest challenge yet: to cross the Fold, a impenetrable darkness that splits their country in half and leaves very few trespassers alive. The Fold will only be the beginning of their troubles as Alina is separated from Mal and falls further into the world of the Grisha.
Shadow and Bone was simply stunning, smart, innovative book that I couldn’t put down. Alina as a narrator was the perfect voice: filled with real emotion but remaining true to her strong and perfectly witty self.
I was pleasantly surprised by this book at every turn. There is so much story filling these pages and anyone seeking a genuinely unique high fantasy adventure will devour this novel.
I really can’t praise this book enough but perhaps the best thing I can say is that this book is one I would proudly call my favorite book, a spot that has been notoriously empty for quite some time.
